High School Paraprofessional

Hiawatha Academies is a growing network of high-performing, K-12 open enrollment public charter schools. Hiawatha Collegiate High School is the newest addition to the growing Hiawatha Academies charter school network. In August 2015, Hiawatha Collegiate High School opened its doors to 104 9th grade students.  This year, we welcomed a new class of 9th graders for a total of 200+ students (9th grade and 10th grade).  At HCHS, all students will benefit from a well-rounded program rooted in rigorous academics, comprehensive college support, and meaningful extracurricular activities. HCHS is committed to ensuring that in 2019, 100 percent of its inaugural class will graduate from high school prepared to thrive in college.

 

HCHS is currently seeking a hard-working, passionate, and goal-oriented educator to join our team immediately.  The paraprofessional needs to be available from 9:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday; 10:00am-4:00pm Fridays.

 

Job Description

We are looking for a highly qualified paraprofessional to join our school team. The primary responsibility of the individual in this role will be supporting students individually or in small groups with specific educational, social and emotional needs in the general education setting. This is an hourly position including benefits.

Hiawatha Employment Logistics

Hiawatha Collegiate High School students’ school day is from 8:15am-3:45pm, Monday-Thursday and 8:15am-1:20pm on Friday.

Teachers must be present from 7:30am-4:00pm three days each week, and 8:00am-4:20pm two days each week.

Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 1:40pm-4:00pm.

All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in relevant evening Family Events to be held at the school.

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

Required:

Minimum of two years college education

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with colleagues, students, and families

Must have a growth mindset

Cultural awareness of self and others

Ability to understand, appreciate, and interact within various cultural contexts

Optimism in our ability to close the opportunity gap for all students

 

Highly Preferred:

Knowledge of special education law or experience working with special education students

A minimum of 2 years teaching in a high-need school with demonstrated student results

Bilingual or multilingual (Oromo, Amharic, Spanish, Somali, and / or Hmong)

Experience working with students of color or students growing up in low-income households
