Position:  Building Substitute Teacher

School:  Cedar Riverside Community School

Cedar Riverside Community School is a PreK-8th grade charter school located in the diverse Cedar-Riverside area of Minneapolis.  It was established as one of the first charter schools in Minnesota in 1993 with the goal of meeting the unique needs of the youth in the neighborhood.  During its 22-year existence, Cedar Riverside Community School has been diligent about maintaining a strong academic program while being responsive to the ever-changing population.  It has also worked in partnership with many organizations in the community.

Cedar Riverside Community School is currently seeking a full-time Building Substitute Teacher to provide instruction for students.  This person will assist the school by filling in for absent staff members.

Responsibilities: Duties of this job include but not limited to:

  1. Implement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time and motivates students to learn and participate

  2. Instruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics and courses of instruction

  3. Follow lesson plans as required by school

  4. Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the lesson plans

  5. Address the various learning styles of students accordingly

  6. Model correct use of spoken and written English language

  7. Demonstrate professional practices in teaching

  8. For long-term assignments, you may be required to develop lesson plans; create, administer, and grade tests/assignments; participate in parent-teacher conferences; and attend school related functions

  9. Maintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in accordance school, state, and all applicable laws and regulations

  10. Ensure adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students

Position will remain open until filled

Required Qualifications:  

  1. Bachelor’s degree in educational field.

  2. Minnesota Teacher’s License

East African, primarily Somali cultural knowledge would be beneficial but not required for employment.
