Job Description:  Elementary Gifted and Talented Coordinator/Math Coach
 
Site:  Eisenhower Elementary
 
Description:  The Elementary Gifted and Talented teacher is responsible to provide Hopkins Gifted and Talented Services at Eisenhower Elementary School. These services include the full range of gifted and talented services from Level I services for all students to Level IV services, which may include program/curriculum acceleration or differentiation for selected students. There will be time for direct instruction, as well as collaborative work with the classroom teachers and other Hopkins Gifted and Talented coordinators.

Individuals filling this position will work with teachers of a specific grade level, yet to be determined, in a coaching, professional development, and support capacity in the area of elementary math instruction.  Responsibilities will include:
  • Leadership in elementary math staff development, specific to an individual grade level
  • Classroom modeling of math instruction
  • Serving as a math resource to classroom teachers, RtI staff, Challenge teachers, and building principals
  • Working with groups of students, in partnership with the classroom teacher
  • Presence at grade level PLC meetings, as agendas and time allow
  • Working as a successful team member with other Elementary Grade Level Coaches, building data coaches, and District Math curriculum leaders


Qualifications:  Qualified candidates will have a background of experience and training which enables them to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:  
  • Training at the undergraduate or graduate level in gifted education pedagogy and related classroom strategies, including the identification of gifted and talented students, or willingness to obtain certification within the next 3 – 5 years.  
  • Knowledge of the nature and needs of gifted students including the demonstrated ability to respond to the social, emotional, and affective needs of gifted students.  
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in differentiation of curriculum and instruction.
  • Demonstrated skills in promoting higher cognitive thinking abilities and questioning techniques.  
  • Demonstrated ability to teach groups of gifted students.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students from a wide-range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with parents and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and support regular classroom and special education teachers in teaching gifted and talented students.
  • Willingness to develop and implement a Young Scholars Program model.
  • Current Minnesota Elementary teaching license.
  • Strong Math content knowledge in grades K-6
  • Experience with Everyday Math curriculum
  • Minimum of five years of successful elementary classroom teaching experience
  • Knowledge of best instructional practices in elementary math education
  • Experience in leading professional development
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, the ability to build positive and productive professional relationships, listening, and the ability to solve problems
  • Exemplary planning and organizational skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students
  • Understanding and experience in using student data to guide instruction
  • Willingness to be a contributing member of the District math team
  • Fulfills requirements as directed by the Eisenhower principal

FTE:  1.0

Salary:  Per HEA Agreement
