English Teacher, Part-Time - Volunteers of America, Minneapolis

The teacher for this class is expected to be familiar with the English Language Arts requirements for both high school and adult diploma, to ensure assignments and rubrics are aligned to the appropriate standards, and to track student progress toward completing their graduation requirements.

Primary Duties:
1. Lesson planning, teaching, and evaluating student work.
2. Monitoring, verifying and documenting student progress toward, and achievement of, graduation requirements in English Language Arts, including reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language skills.
3. Plan and teach English lessons appropriate for adult students enrolled in K-12 credit recovery and the state-standard Adult Diploma Program.
4. Use rubrics to ensure standards are met.
5. Maintain records of student work for their portfolios or files.
6. Produce documentation of your own observation or evidence of each student’s skills.
7. Establish relationships to motivate students and encourage attendance.


Hours: 5:00-9:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday
Salary: 5 hours per work day at $21 per hour

 

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree and Minnesota teaching license in English or related field required.
- Additional license, certificate or experience in ABE or ESL preferred.
- Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively required.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Ability to use K-12, CCRS, and Adult Diploma Program standards and rubrics required.

VOA Adult High School serves all adults, 21 and older, who need a high school diploma. We offer all levels of ESL and ABE, K-12 credit recovery, and the state-standard Adult Diploma Program (ADP). This position involves working with our ESL 1-2 students in math.
