Parent Education/Early Childhood Education:
  1. Plans, designs and facilitates curriculum that addresses all areas of the early childhood learning standards regarding child and parent development.
  2. Observes and monitors the cognitive and emotional development of children through observation of play and social interactions.  Meets with parents to discuss any developmental issues or concerns and facilitates referral to other services, if needed.
  3. Establishes a rapport with parents and offers support, behavioral strategies and resources to promote and facilitate the development and strengthening of their parenting skills and understanding of the cognitive and emotional development of their children.
  4. Models and teaches parents effective behavioral strategies in dealing with their children and addressing their needs.  Makes follow up calls to parents to monitor specific needs and concerns.  
  5. Collaborates with staff and individual teams on curriculum which includes best practices for Early Childhood Family Education classes.
  6. Creates a climate of trust and safety which includes the importance of privacy and confidentiality.  
  7. Arranges a safe and appealing environment in which to learn.
  8. Develops Implement lesson plans and instructional materials providing effective teaching strategies adhering to the Minnesota Early childhood Indicators of Progress.

  • Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education, parent education, early childhood special education or related field.
  • Licensed by the State of MN in Parent Education.
  • Knowledge of parent education, adult learning and the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program manager and staff, district personnel and students.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.  
  • Evidence of self motivation, enthusiasm, patience, problem solving and flexibility.
  • Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills.
