Position Title:  Education Assistant I
 
Assignment:  Blind/Visually Impaired Services Department assigned to Pullman Elemetary (South Washington County School District)

Hours Per Day:  6.0

Hourly Rate:  Starting at $14.57

Job Summary: 

Under direct supervision, performs duties that are instructional in nature or may deliver direct services to students in the classroom and/or learning environments. Serves in a position for which a teacher or another licensed professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services. May provide specialized assistance for students with special needs. This job performs its role within District policy and State/Federal laws.
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assists licensed staff with classroom instruction by working with small groups of students or an individual student.
  • Assists licensed staff in creating an environment that is appropriate for learning. Reinforcing positive behavior and re-directing inappropriate behavior.
  • Assists licensed staff with the planning, preparation and implementation of differentiated instructions for individual students and groups. Prepares and organizes learning materials.
  • Assists licensed staff in the preparation of student record keeping. Collects and enters data for progress reports and other documents with accuracy and consistent with documentation standards.
  • Supervises and monitors students at all times including bus loading, unloading, recess and lunch.
  • Support of a student's physical care as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills: 
 
One to three years work experience with school children and/or special needs population; basic computer skills and email; proficient in core subject areas; able to manage behaviors and intervene in crisis situations; good oral, written and interpersonal communication; ability to create collaborative and positive relationships.  Unrelated successful work experience may be considered. 

Two years of study at an institution of higher education (a minimum of 60 semester credits), an Associate's (or higher) degree, OR passing score on the ParaPro assessment.

Ability to pass pre-placement physical exam; ability to lift, physically contain and withstand unpredictable pushing or pulling by students up to adult size; ability to move quickly to avoid unpredictable physical interactions (please see description of physical requirements below).

Special Education programs and services in Northeast Metro 916 are central to the Intermediate District's mission and fully integrated in its structure and decision-making processes. Programs provide special education and related service support to students from early childhood through age 21 with emotional/behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, developmental and cognitive disabilities, deaf and hard of hearing disabilities, and learning disabilities.
