English Learner (EL) Curriculum Coordinator

Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2017

Compensation:

Salary schedule based on Teacher's Contract, previous teaching experience and education (Contract is available on District Website under Human Resources/Staffing)

Licensure Qualifications :

   Required:  Current MN Teaching License in K-12 ESL.
   Desired: Leadership experience in EL Programing. 


POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coordinator works as a bridge between Office of Equity and Integration (OEI) and Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) to deliver culturally relevant teaching through a variety of programs, such as AVID and CRSI
 
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Disseminate and review information related to EL programming.
  2. Ensure that EL instructional programs adhere to promising practices within the field of English Learning.
  3. Provide guidance and strategies to teacher and staff based on the model of instruction called Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP). 
  4. Ensure the proper identification of pre-K through 12 EL learners.
  5. Work with Testing Coordinator to plan annual language proficiency testing (ACCESS for ELL’S).
  6. Other duties as assigned.
 
 
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
 
Required:
  1. Current Minnesota EL teaching license
  2. Minimum of five years of teaching experience
  3. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  4. Commitment to teamwork and collaborative planning
  5. Demonstrated leadership as a teacher
  6. Leadership experience in instructional design/development
  7. Leadership experience in staff development/coaching/mentoring
  8. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
  9. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
  10. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
 
Desired:
  1. Knowledge of current research best practices as it relates to RTI
  2. Knowledge and expertise in technology as it relates to data use
  3. Experience working with Gifted Ed, Technology, Literacy, Staff development, Curriculum and Instruction
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with diverse student population
  5. Ability to provide support to culturally and linguistically diverse students
