Intermediate District 287 is seeking a highly qualified and dynamic instructional leader to fill the above principal position. The principal is responsible for the overall operations of a building and for promoting an atmosphere conducive to learning in alignment with the District Mission, Core Values and Strategic Directions.  The principal is an educational leader of the District and the instructional leader of the building and is responsible for keeping current on educational trends that affect the school.

The candidate chosen for this position will have proven skills in instructional and organizational leadership, management, and communication in engaging students, staff, family and community; an understanding of differentiated and personalized instruction and continuous improvement with ability to implement school wide instructional initiatives, monitor extent of implementation and direct revisions as required; experience and knowledge in staff development and demonstrated ability to build leadership capacity in others, with focus on student learning and development; demonstrated history of creative and innovative programs reflecting improved student achievement on multiple indicators of student success; demonstrated ability to effectively use data based decision making to design instruction, in order to impact learning of all students; high level of cultural proficiency with demonstrated ability to navigate intercultural issues with sensitivity and awareness, and ability to drive cultural diversity and inclusiveness throughout the building.


Qualifications include a Master's degree in special education or related field plus four (4) years of professional level experience working in an educational setting. 


  • K-12 principal license and director of special education license; OR

  • Director of special education license and enrollment in a principal licensure program; OR

  • K-12 principal license and enrollment in a special education director licensure program; OR

  • MN K-12 principal license and any special education licensure.


  • Doctorate degree in Education Administration/Leadership

  • Experience with Special Education processes and compliance
