The Melrose Area Public School is seeking candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The
successful candidate will begin work on or around July 1, 2017 and will receive a competitive salary and benefit package commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Applicants must hold a license as a Superintendent of Schools issued by the State of Minnesota or be eligible
to obtain a license at the time the application is submitted. Experience as a principal or in a similar public school administrative position is required. Experience as superintendent of schools is preferred.
Knowledge and experience in the general administration of a comprehensive program of instructional and support services for pre-K
through 12th grade students.
Proficiency in communications and public relations including a record of positive involvement with staff and in the community.
Knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of instructional and support programs for learners of all ages.
Knowledge and experience in the management and development of school personnel.
Knowledge and experience of Minnesota public school finance and school district financial management including budget development,
deployment, and monitoring.
Knowledge and experience in positive interactions with the local School Board and other governmental units.
Demonstrated proficiency in planning and in conflict management.
School District Information:
The Melrose Area Public Schools District has an enrollment of approximately 1,400
K-12 students drawn from a diverse population. In addition, children, families, and other district residents are
served through early childhood and community education programs.
Educational and support programs are delivered in a PreK-5 Elementary School, 6-8 Middle School, and a 9-12 Secondary School.
The superintendent is supported by three principals, a Finance Manager, a Community Education, an Activities Director, Custodial Supervisor,
& a Technology Director.
The district employs 185 licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The enrollment pattern for the district has been steady for the last several years.
The district has begun a comprehensive 1:1 Technology Initiative in grades 5-12.
The school district’s operating budget is approximately $17 million. The district has an outstanding financial footing.
