Using the Expeditionary Learning mode specific projects are selected for their ability to bring us closer to one another and to the world around us. Position Overview HLCS is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to serve both as an educator and IEP case manager. The ideal candidate is committed to inclusive, student-centered education that is inspired by outdoor, expeditionary, and trauma-informed teaching practices. The Special Education teacher is responsible for a successful school experience for each of their scholars. From academics to social skills, the Special Education teacher is responsible for designing instruction leading to the development of their scholars in a holistic way. Additionally, the Special Education teacher is responsible for creating a safe environment where every child feels cared for, supported, and able to thrive. A critical member of the professional culture, all teachers are responsible for being positive and active contributors to the entire school and staff crew. Responsibilities * Design and implement differentiated lesson plans that are engaging, educational, and exciting. * Teach in special education classrooms (lead) and general education classrooms (co-teach). * Develop and maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with Indigo Education, our HLCS partners in Special Education programming * Write, manage, and implement IEPs in compliance with due process. * Assess and monitor student progress toward IEP goals. * Partner with families to support student learning and create a positive school culture * Collaborate with staff on accommodations and modifications. * Maintain accurate documentation and records. * Lead IEP and evaluation meetings. * Apply trauma-informed strategies to teaching and classroom culture. * Embed EL Education practices such as service learning, authentic assessment, and character development. * Utilize outdoor learning environments in daily instruction. * Engage in professional learning aligned with HLCS values and vision. ________________________________ Qualifications * Valid Minnesota Special Education teaching license (or eligibility and ability to obtain one). * Previous experience in special education is preferred. * Passion, Curiosity or experience in EL Education, Outdoor Learning, Social Emotional Learning, Trauma-Informed Care, and Restorative Practices ________________________________ To Apply To apply for this position, send your resume, cover letter, contact information for 3 professional references, and documentation of licensure credentials to careers@heartlandlakescs.org<mailto:careers@heartlandlakescs.org>.
