Essential Duties Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum that follows MN state and national standards. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Create appealing lessons that implement a variety of methodologies and supplementary materials compatible with course standards. Design, plan, and implement physical education lessons based on school district/state/national standards Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Administers testing in accordance with state testing practices. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve learning, health, and attitude problems. Develop and maintain a list of research material appropriate to the subjects taught. Effectively use technology and resources for their class. High level of concentration and attention to detail. Ongoing, daily duties of physical education teachers include: Employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that is consistent with the physical limitations, needs, and capabilities of individuals students and/or groups of students Guiding students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior Maintaining records of individual student achievement and evaluating students on a continuous basis Meeting and instructing assigned classes at designated times Preparing for classes and maintaining written evidence of preparation Upholding and enforcing school rules, school board policies, and administrative regulations Working with other members of the physical education staff to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods Qualifications: Valid teaching licenses issued by the Minnesota Department of Education in K-12 or 5-12 Physical Education and Health. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities. Knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts. Knowledge of instructional technologies. Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to plan and implement lessons based upon district and schools goals and objectives. Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations. Ability to evaluate student performance and to present evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement. Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate. Ability to consistently and effectively design instructional and behavioral activities for students. Ability to work with a wide variety of students in a calm, patient, understanding, creative, flexible, student-centered environment. Good human relation skills, team player and professional demeanor. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information at all times. Description:
