SPECIAL EDUCATION DUE PROCESS COODINATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Special Education Due Process Coordinator is a special education licensed teacher whose responsibility is to design, monitor and coordinate LEA procedures, and assure that these procedures comply with state and federal regulations with regard to special education services for children with disabilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A PELSB licensed special education teacher, school psychologist or speech language pathologist is required for the program coordinator position.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* The program coordinator will function as a mentor to other teachers.
* Responsibilities generally relate to additional functions in facilitating special education day-to-day activities including: Write IEPs in collaboration with Special Ed Case Managers, Summarize evaluations for Special Education, Develop evaluation plans and use assessment tools to determine student eligibility for specialized education.
* Prepares for and leads evaluation meetings
* Maintains effective and efficient student records procedures concerning attendance, testing, behaviors, progress, and related academic information.
* Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
* The program coordinator may coordinate program planning, evaluation and implementation, in-service training and curriculum development, and provide consultative support to teaching staff.
* The program coordinator may also do some of the following: advocate for students, coordinate due process procedures, attend IEP/IFSP meetings, and help mediate differences between parents and the LEA.
* Other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or CEO
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
* Knowledge content of specialty area
* Knowledge of appropriate level of education principles, practices and procedures
* Knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
* Skilled in oral and written communication
* Skilled in using personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripheral equipment related to classroom instruction
* Knowledge of maintaining various electronic and paper records
* Understanding developmental appropriateness of materials and behavior
* Establish and maintain standards of behavior
* Deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents
POSITION INFORMATION:
* Salary: $60,000
