Pay Scale: Dependent on qualifications - $45,162 - $82,633

Licensed School Nurse
Major Responsibilities:
Performs human support work providing nursing care, nursing assessment and physical screening for students, dispensing medication, preparing and maintaining student and clinic records, handling health emergencies and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Superintendent and Principal and in collaboration with current health office staff. Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting.
Essential Functions
Identifies and addresses student health concerns; assesses health history and records and communicates with students, parents and guardians, teachers and other medical providers.
Develops and implements individualized health plans, emergency care plans, etc.
Implements third party billing procedures.
Provides education, resources and/or counseling to students, families and staff regarding the health conditions and/or emergency procedures.
Provides information on health conditions and/or emergency plans to staff.
Organizes, trains and performs various health screenings or mandatory medical training.
Serves as an advocate for at risk students.
Maintains student health information in the student information system and medical system; develops and maintains health services webpage; communicates to staff and agencies via email.
Provides classroom education on various student health issues.
Facilitates the training of staff in various health related topics; teaches CPR and first aid classes; writes and maintains procedures for AED; seeks funding for AED and CPR training.
Monitoring medical certifications by required staff.
Teachers a one-hour medical/CNA class.
Prepares purchase orders and vouchers for materials and equipment.
Trains and oversees other staff assisting in the health office.
Serves on IEP and 504 meetings as the medical representative.
Supervises the district nursing assistant.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the common medical practices, procedures and techniques associated with a standard physical examination; thorough knowledge of the preliminary diagnosis of medical problems and the administration of medications related to treatment and first aid; ability to administer medications and apply therapeutic treatments as required; ability to follow technical oral and written instructions in exact detail; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and guardians, associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; no special vocal communication skills are required; no special hearing perception is required; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in nursing. Alternatives to the qualifications may be considered.
Special Requirements
Minnesota Registered Nurse, Public Health Nurse, and School Nurse.
Licensed by PELSB as a School Nurse (LSN).
Experience working in a multicultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.
Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.
