The EL Teacher provides specialized instruction for multilingual learners to ensure equitable access to grade-level content and accelerated English language development. Using the WIDA ELD Standards Framework and aligned to the Minnesota K?12 Academic Standards, the EL Teacher collaborates with general education teachers to design and deliver instruction in both push-in and pull-out models. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of second language acquisition, is committed to culturally responsive teaching, and is dedicated to building inclusive, affirming learning environments. Responsibilities: Instructional Support for Multilingual Learners Deliver direct English language instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking based on students? WIDA ACCESS scores, Can Do Descriptors, and instructional levels. Provide integrated support through co-teaching, collaboration, and differentiated instruction aligned to grade-level standards. Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure linguistic accommodations, content accessibility, and instructional strategies that support English language development (ELD). Write, implement, and monitor daily content and language objectives. Use a variety of teaching models (e.g., pull-out, push-in, co-teaching) based on students'' language proficiency levels and grade-level needs. Scaffold grade-level curriculum using WIDA standards to ensure both language development and academic success. Support appropriate modifications/accommodations for students with IEPs, 504s, or SIT plans, in collaboration with other staff. Design lessons and select materials that reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of the student population. Community Building & Equity-Centered Practice Build a safe, culturally affirming, and inclusive classroom rooted in trauma-informed and anti-racist practices. Develop strong relationships with students and their families, honoring their linguistic and cultural assets. Incorporate SEL strategies and restorative practices in daily routines and instruction. Support students in identifying and achieving personal academic and language development goals. Assessment, Data, and Instructional Planning Use formative and summative assessments to measure student language development and adjust instruction accordingly. Administer and analyze results from WIDA Screener, ACCESS for ELLs, and additional language assessments per MDE guidelines. Track student progress and maintain documentation of services, assessments, accommodations, and instructional adjustments. Use data to advocate for appropriate instructional placement and support levels, including SIT referrals when needed. Support state-mandated reporting and data entry related to EL identification, placement, and reclassification. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Participate in weekly collaboration meetings with grade-level or content teams and other ML teachers. Contribute actively to Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data, equity, and instructional improvement. Collaborate with social workers, deans, family liaisons, and other support staff to remove barriers to learning and promote student success. Communicate regularly with families in their home language (when possible) using interpreters or translation services as needed. Support classroom teachers in the development of quarterly and annual instructional plans that integrate ELD standards. Participate in school events, family engagement nights, and outreach activities to strengthen school-home partnerships. Engage in ongoing professional development aligned to English learner education, language acquisition, cultural competency, and charter school best practices. Participate fully in the district''s educator evaluation system as outlined in MN Statute 122A.40/122A.41. Support schoolwide events, family engagement nights, and community partnerships. Other Duties Support administration of WIDA and other mandated assessments. Serve as a resource and coach for teachers seeking to improve instruction for multilingual learners. Attend IEP, SIT, or Child Study meetings as needed to support EL students with additional services. Perform additional duties as assigned to meet the needs of students and the school community.
