Purpose Statement on Using the Environment An emphasis on outdoor learning by using the environment with which we live and learn by utilizing both structured and unstructured outdoor learning spaces; we intend to be an expeditionary learning school where students work together on a specific project throughout the school year to achieve a common goal. HLCS will be a smaller community school with smaller class sizes which will lead to more individualized attention and care. Position Overview The School Social Worker will provide social, emotional, and behavioral support to students in both general and special education settings. This role involves collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families to create positive learning environments and effective interventions, addressing the diverse needs of K-6 students. The social worker will also support teachers in behavioral interventions and contribute to the overall well-being of the school community, aligning with the school's environmental and holistic education focus. Job Title: School Social Worker (K-6) Location: Heartland Lakes Community School, K-6 Public Charter School Key Responsibilities: 1. Student Support (General and Special Education) * Provide individual and group interventions to students, addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs. * Develop and implement interventions and strategies to help students succeed academically and socially. * Assist students with disabilities in achieving their individualized education program (IEP) goals. * Conduct assessments and create behavior plans tailored to individual students&#8217; needs. * Teach weekly Social Emotional Learning lessons, using Peacemaker Resources Curriculum 1. Behavioral Interventions * Support teachers in managing classroom behaviors through coaching, consultations, and direct interventions. * Collaborate with staff to design and implement school-wide positive behavior support systems. * Train teachers and staff on best practices for de-escalation techniques and classroom management strategies. * Lead or co-facilitate social skills groups and other behavior-related student programs. 1. Family and Community Engagement * Act as a liaison between the school and families, promoting positive communication and addressing barriers to learning. * Provide referrals for community services and resources for students and families in need of additional support. 1. Collaboration and School-Wide Support * Work closely with school leadership to create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive school community. . * Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP, 504, and Child Study meetings. * Collaborate with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into the curriculum and support environmental learning initiatives. 1. Crisis Intervention and Prevention * Respond to crises and provide immediate short-term counseling or support for students and staff. * Develop and implement preventative strategies for crisis situations. 1. Data Collection and Reporting * Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress, interventions, and communications. * Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of behavioral and social-emotional interventions. Qualifications: * Bachelor&#8217;s or Master&#8217;s degree in Social Work or related field. * Experience working with children in K-6 educational settings, including students with special needs. * Knowledge of behavioral interventions, mental health resources, and best practices in supporting diverse learners. * Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with Social Emotional Learning (SEL), restorative practices, and trauma-informed care.
