Shakopee High School Spring Play Set Designer and Builder
Job Summary:
Shakopee High School is searching for a skilled, experienced set designer / builder to join our production team for the spring production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and potentially for future productions. The set designer’s chief responsibilities include collaborating with the director, providing detailed plans, ensuring the safety of crew and performers, and educating and training student workers, all while delivering high-quality sets on schedule.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborating with the director to design the layout and look of the set using sketches, software, and/or models.
* Developing time schedules and ordering required materials.
* Leading set construction and supervising student builders.
* Communicating effectively with costume, props, and lighting staff.
* Implementing changes as required throughout rehearsal process.
* Briefing crew and actors on set safety and also explaining how the set operates.
Qualifications:
* Degree in theater / construction is beneficial, but not required.
* Excellent creative intelligence and time management skills.
* A good eye for detail and the ability to generate many ideas.
* Deadline-driven and committed.
Working Conditions:
Construction environment; significant lifting, carrying, etc. Use of power tools and safety equipment.
