Upward Bound Summer Science Teacher, High school-Normandale Community College

Upward Bound is a program funded by two grants from the U.S. Department of Education and isdesigned to assist motivated high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for and pursue a college education. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Teach classes to high school students as part of Normandale Upward Bound&#8217;s six-week Summer Academic Enrichment Program. * Write curriculum and/or use existing curriculum for biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy classes that include lab experiments. * Embed ACT practice questions into curriculum. * Keep proper documentation. * Chaperone field trips. * Mentor students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * A teaching license in high school science. * Ability to teach biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy. * Motivation and sensitivity to work with students from diverse backgrounds. * Willingness to engage with students both in and outside the classroom. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Previous teaching experience in content area. * Previous experience writing curriculum. DETAILS: * June 10-July 18, 2025, Approximately 9 am-1:15 pm daily, Monday &#8211;Thursday (Exceptions noted below.) * July 4: No classes * June 13, 20 & July 10, 11: Approximately 9:15 am-3 pm (times will vary depending on field trip) * July 18, Approximately 9 am &#8211;1 pm * Teach four 60-minute classes (M-Th) + chaperone field trips (Fridays) * One teacher meeting end of May/beginning of June via Zoom * Curriculum writing/planning is done on your own time and is figured into the stipend amount. * $4,500 stipend (total amount for the summer). The $4,500 will be pro-rated by number of days in pay period and paid out every two weeks with first pay period on Friday, June 27, 2025.
