Wages and Benefits
$35.00 per hour; This position is not eligible for benefits except for accrual of Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave and participation in agency sponsored retirement savings plan, which includes a 25% match on your first 4% and immediate vesting.
Schedule
This is a temporary, full-time position with a preferred start date of March 10, 2025. The PCYC Summer Freedom School program is 6 weeks long, running from June 30 – August 8, 2025, Mondays – Fridays from 8:15am – 3:45pm. Mandatory paid virtual training runs from March 20 – March 23. There are also mandatory paid trainings taking place locally on May 24, as well as national training from June 2-8, and additional local training June 16-20. Travel to Knoxville, Tennessee will be required for the national training.
A Typical Day in the Life…
A typical day as PCYC’s Summer Freedom School Site Coordinator provides an opportunity to manage and supervise the day-to-day operations for one CDF Freedom Schools program site. Responsibilities will include the following:
Program Management
- Working in conjunction with the Project Director in recruiting children for the program.
- Managing program outreach and communicating with families through multiple touchpoints.
- Maintaining the safety of all staff and students at their site.
- Ensuring proper implementation of the CDF Freedom Schools program model by managing daily site activities.
- Attending all required training.
- Working in conjunction with the Project Director or other designee to coordinate afternoon activities, field trips, family engagement initiatives, and volunteer responsibilities.
- Conducting daily debrief sessions in an effort to maintain team spirit, as well as providing technical support and feedback for Servant Leader Interns.
- Inputting child, parent, and staff enrollment data in CDF’s reporting system.
- Maintaining regular communication with the Project Director.
- Ensuring that the CDF Freedom Schools Integrated Reading Curriculum is being implemented with fidelity.
- Submitting all required documents, data reports, and evaluations to CDF by the required deadlines.
Program Leadership
- Working in conjunction with the Project Director to recruit, hire, train, and manage staff.
- Serving in a supervisory capacity and being the primary contact for the Servant Leader Interns during the Freedom Schools program timeframe.
- Working with the Director of Youth Programs & Capri Best Buy Teen Tech Center to be identifying and scheduling guest readers, and leading Harambee.
- Working with site leadership to be reviewing book inventory upon receipt and notifying the CDF designees of any discrepancies.
- Ensuring Servant Leader Interns have the necessary books, materials, and supplies for daily activities.
- Conducting informal observations of Servant Leader Interns facilitating the Integrated Reading Curriculum throughout the summer. Considering using the IRC rating scale to provide specific feedback to your staff.
- Attending food service training.
Who You Are
- You have completed at least one year of college.
- Previous experience working as a Servant Leader Intern at a CDF Freedom Schools site is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a nonprofit community-based organization is preferred.
- You possess strong leadership and management skills.
- You demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- You demonstrate a strong understanding of individual cultural history and the willingness to be open and respectful of other cultures.
- You demonstrate a high level of competence in computer applications, and the ability to use these resources effectively in accomplishing work. For example, the ability to create and use charts, tables, and functions in Excel is a minimum expectation.
- You are highly detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
- You have the ability to develop relationships with youth and families that foster academic success.
- You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
