Saint John's Prep School invites applications for the full-time, benefit eligible position of ESOL Instructor/International Advisor.
Since its founding in 1857, Saint John’s Preparatory School has provided exceptional education in the Catholic Benedictine tradition. Saint John's Preparatory School is a Catholic/Benedictine, co-educational, day and boarding college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, with boarding options beginning in the 9th grade. Saint John's Prep is located on the 3,000 acres of woods and lakes of Saint John's University's campus in central Minnesota. Prep has continuously dedicated itself to both educational development and personal formation.
Under the supervision of the Principal and Assistant Head of School, this position is responsible for teaching in a dynamic upper school program where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an ESOL instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Saint John’s Preparatory policies. This person is also responsible for supporting the international and multicultural students through advising and programming. Additional roles include collaborating with the Dean of Student Life to enhance the residential experience and serving on the Student Services Team.

Responsibilities:
1.Collaborate with the Dean of Student Life and Student Services Team to plan and direct the International Student Mentor Program and the International Student Orientation Program.
2.Lead and manage international and multicultural student services and programming functions.
3.Provide academic, social, and personal guidance for international and multicultural students.
4.Regularly communicate with students and parents.
5.Develop and implement multicultural programming and training for students, faculty, and staff.
6.Serve on the Student Services Team (SST).
7.Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
8.Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
9.Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
10.Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
11.Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
12.Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
13.Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
14.Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
15.Participate in staff meetings, campus, and community events.
Qualifications:
1.Qualified candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and a teaching license to teach ESOL classes.
2.Demonstrated advising expertise and proven ability to create responsive, caring, and appropriate relationships with families. Service-oriented, with the ability to work effectively and proactively with involved parents.
3.Discretion, respect for confidentiality, and highest ethical standards.
4.Ability and eagerness to work with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences, and a commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive office and school community.
5.Outstanding writing ability.
6.Communication skills: ability to work with families in a transparent, candid, effective yet thoughtful manner through written and oral communication.
7.Outstanding organizational and time management skills, plus the ability to work independently, in groups and to multi-task.
8.A collaborative, collegial and flexible workstyle, patience, good humor, openness to new ideas, and a growth-mindset.
9.An ongoing commitment to professional development, staying abreast of issues in education.
10.Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
11.Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
