Position Overview The successful Teacher for Alternatives to Suspension will: * collaborate with the School Leadership Teams at Westwood Schools and Spring Lake Park High School to provide a positive, learner-centered environment when students need a short-term alternative to suspension setting * build positive and productive relationships with students to support their success as they continue to progress in their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth and development in the alternative to suspension setting * plan for, cultivate, manage, and reinforce a learner-centered environment by providing clear, consistent, and caring expectations * engage students and staff in restorative practices to re-establish and strengthen relationships * provide leadership to paraprofessionals who are partnering to support students&#8217; needs during the day in the alternative to suspension setting; * design and implement targeted interventions and supports to support students in developing lagging social, emotional, and/or behavioral skills * partner with students, families, counselors, and administration to support student transition in and back to the school. &#8230; firmly believes: * all students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control; * in the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students; * each student brings value to our learning community; we recognize that each student brings unique assets, experiences, and voice to the school and classroom environment; * we individually and collectively influence the behavior and culture of a classroom and school through our responses, and pattern of responses, to challenging or unexpected behavior; * in the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence, and student success; and * in personalizing learning for students, meeting academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success. Preferences We strongly prefer candidates who have experience working with middle and/or high school students. Demonstrated experience in working effectively in collaboration with colleagues and families is desired. Multilingual candidates, and candidates with experience working in a diverse community are preferred. Qualifications Candidates with a bachelor&#8217;s degree in education, special education licensure required. The successful candidate must have applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in this role. Additional demonstrated qualifications include commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills; highly effective interpersonal skills.
