SALARY RANGE: $49,141 - $90,362 /year
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* Minimal 3 years experience in a teaching position that was focused on reading instruction. (Includes SPED, EL, Intervention, K-12 reading)
* MDE Tier 3 or 4 teaching license, K-5 or 6-12
* Knowledge of Dyslexia
* Demonstrated Excellence in teaching
* Knowledge of high yield literacy instructional strategies
* Proven use of data to support student success
Preferred:
* LETRS trained or in-training
* Experience teaching reading intervention
POSITION SUMMARY: The Literacy Specialist will work in partnership with teachers, building leadership, and the Teaching and Learning Department to support student learning in all content areas. The Literacy Specialist will:
* Support literacy instruction in all content areas
* Guide PLTs through identification of essential learning & use of formative assessments to ensure student learning
* Support all teachers in reducing student failure rates
* Support implementation of effective grading practices
* Coach teachers in use of high leverage practices
SCHEDULE:
* Assigned 1-2 secondary schools 4 days/week
* DAO/Professional Development/Data/Resources 1 day/week
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Provide direct instructional coaching to teachers to support the implementation of the guaranteed and viable curriculum
* Supports alignment in classroom practices and curriculum implementation across classrooms
* Engage in reflective conversations with teachers to assist in making instructional decisions to most effectively meet the needs of their students
* Regularly review student assessment data at assigned school(s) to assess student progress and identify necessary instructional changes
* Support teachers in the design and use of formative assessments, including responding to formative assessment data (includes lesson planning)
* Support the analysis of data through PLT’s and MTSS
* Actively participate in the MTSS process by ensuring the implementation of identified Tier 2 and 3 interventions
* Support facilitation of identified Professional Learning Teams
* Assist teachers with analysis of formal and informal assessment data of their students
* Provide professional development and support to teachers regarding the implementation of grading, literacy and effective instructional strategies
* Provide targeted support and mentorship for new teaching staff
* Model best high yield instructional strategies
* Support all content teachers in literacy instruction
Professional Responsibilities
* Work to promote productive relationships with and among building and district staff
* Serve as a member of the site leadership team
* Provide building and district professional development
* Engage in professional learning opportunities identified by the district as essential learning for Literacy Specialists
* Partner with building leaders to create a predictable schedule of support for classroom teachers
* Support and communicate the literacy needs of students in a reading intervention, students receiving EL services, and students who go through the MTSS process
* Support the Secondary Assessment Plan and provide assessments within the plan to students to guide supports
* Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
