Position Overview Under the supervision of the Director of Social Emotional Wellness and Program Principal, the School Social Worker (SSW) plays a vital role in providing services to students to improve social-emotional skills. The SSW will obtain and analyze data to determine social-emotional needs of students, support access to and participation in programming, maintain documentation, and provide services to students. Professionalism, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach are essential when working with students receiving special education services. The SSW will collaborate daily with special and general education staff, families, and students in an environment that relies on collaboration, communication, and flexibility. Special Education Services (70%) &#9679; Provide direct instruction and counseling to students in the areas of social skills, communication skills, problem, solving, behavior management, mental health management skills and skills necessary for students to transition to other educational, community or vocational settings. &#9679; Write specific and measurable goals and objectives related to identified social-emotional needs within the IEP. &#9679; Maintain detailed records of student services and goal progress. &#9679; Report student progress at team meetings and in regular reporting cycles. &#9679; Conduct social skills groups for students receiving special education services. &#9679; Facilitate connections between school and community services for students receiving special education services and related community support services. &#9679; Maintain communication with members of the educational team concerning academic and behavioral progress. &#9679; Support in collection of data for Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs). &#9679; Support development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). &#9679; Attend IEP team meetings for all students receiving Social Work services. &#9679; Support classroom teachers and educational assistants (EAs) with implementation of special education accommodations, positive behavior interventions, and other supports to the benefit of student inclusion and success in education. &#9679; Provide mental health services in special education (MH-SPED) in compliance with the standards of the MN Department of Health and complete all associated assessments and documentation. &#9679; Complete accurate and timely Medicaid (MA) billing assessments and documentation, including routine engagement in appropriate supervision (if applicable). Team Collaboration (20%) &#9679; Engage in Special Education staff team meetings and IEP teams as appropriate to student needs. &#9679; Assist in Special Education Evaluations through completing student and family interviews, assisting in self-report form completion, and other assessment as needed. &#9679; Collaborate with Case Managers and other Related Service Providers to provide support to students receiving special education services. Administrative Duties (10%) &#9679; Demonstrate knowledge of district, state and federal policies, including due process guidelines and child abuse/neglect reporting. &#9679; Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, and other documents required and in a manner consistent with ethical and legal standards for the Social Work profession, State/Federal laws, and district policies. &#9679; Collaborate with the special education team to develop, maintain, and implement school wide policies and practices related to student behavior, community safety, trauma-informed and restorative practices. Additional Expectations: &#9679; Engage in, teach, and model anti-racist language and practices within the school and broader community. &#9679; Prioritize school social work needs and manage time accordingly. &#9679; Contribute to a growing team and the development of high quality district practices through attending workshops and keeping abreast of current literature and best practices. &#9679; Uphold the ethical standards of the Social Work profession. &#9679; Participate fully and positively in the staff culture of the school. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: &#9679; Bachelors Degree in Social Work &#9679; Minnesota Board of Social Work Licensure (LSW, LGSW, LISW or LICSW) &#9679; Minnesota PELSB Related Service License * Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: &#9679; Masters Degree in Social Work &#9679; Experience working with children and families, especially in a school setting; &#9679; Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and work independently; &#9679; Experience with restorative justice and trauma-informed practices; &#9679; Strong time management skills - ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously, while following through on issues in a timely manner; &#9679; Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and collaborative approach with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
