The position is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement of special education programs and the district&#8217;s MTSS framework, with a focus on ensuring equitable, data-driven support for all learners. This includes leadership in compliance, professional development, inclusive practices, and collaboration with school and district teams to enhance student outcomes across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will: 1. Hold a Master&#8217;s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, School Psychology, Counseling, or a related field. 2. Hold a valid Minnesota Tier 3 or Tier 4 Teaching License. Administrative licensure (Principal and/or Special Education Director) is strongly preferred or must be attainable within one year of hire as demonstrated through current enrollment in a licensure program. 3. Have a minimum of five years of experience in education, including at least two years in a leadership or administrative role. 4. Have demonstrated experience and knowledge in special education services and MTSS frameworks such as Minnesota MTSS, Response to Intervention (RtI) and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). 5. Be proficient in analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions and to assist in systemic planning. 6. Have strong communication, leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. 7. Be knowledgeable in federal and state laws related to special education (IDEA, Section 504), and capable of ensuring compliance across schools. 8. Have experience supporting diverse populations and demonstrate a commitment to culturally responsive practices. 9. Have experience with or show a strong commitment to working with Native American children and families. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES District-Level Responsibilities: * In collaboration with district-level implementation teams, develop, coordinate, and monitor the district&#8217;s MTSS and special education frameworks. * Ensure alignment with district goals and compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. * Provide leadership and guidance to school-based teams in implementing best practices in instruction, intervention, and special education services. * Serve as a liaison between schools, district leadership, families, and community partners. * Lead professional development for educators and staff on MTSS, special education, and federal programs. * Facilitate data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and instructional supports. * Respond to parent concerns, due process matters, and support IEP team facilitation. * Provide supervision and support to the MTSS Data Manager * Support the Director of Special Services in writing grants, monitoring budgets, and implementing special projects as assigned. Building-Level Support: * Coach and assist principals, teachers, and MTSS teams in implementing tiered academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports. * Provide technical assistance for data-based decision-making and instructional improvement. * Promote inclusive practices and equitable access to education for all learners. * Support the fidelity of progress monitoring, intervention planning, and special education processes. * Ensure consistent practices across schools related to referrals, interventions, evaluations, and services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing this job, the staff member may be required to: * Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. * Lift and carry items needed for meetings or instruction. * Use hands and arms for computer work and presentation tools. * Speak and hear effectively in meetings, trainings, and with stakeholders. * Travel between school sites and attend occasional evening events or meetings. Salary and Benefit Range: Under Principal Contract starting annual salary range of $131,335.
