Principal on Special Assignment
Secondary School Sites
Mankato Area Public Schools is seeking a collaborative and experienced leader to serve as Principal on Special Assignment. This two-year role will support secondary school principals at Dakota Meadows Middle School, Prairie Winds Middle School, Mankato East High School, and Mankato West High School in designing and implementing innovative changes to educational programs with a strong focus on preparing students for college, career, and life after graduation. This is a temporary position beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2027.
Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Superintendent and Director of Teaching and Learning, this position provides systems-level guidance to school leaders, focusing on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and the overall school experience for students, staff and families. The Principal on Special Assignment will also help ensure schools are safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous environments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with secondary principals to lead the planning and implementation of school redesign efforts.
* Support the development of effective curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
* Promote a positive and supportive school climate that encourages student engagement, achievement, and well-being.
* Strengthen academic pathways and career-connected learning opportunities that support each student’s postsecondary goals.
* Help build staff capacity through professional learning and leadership development.
* Use data to guide decision-making and monitor progress toward goals.
* Strengthen relationships with families and the broader community to support student success.
* Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* MN Licensure as a K-12 or Elementary Principal
* Three years successful teaching experience
* Experience as a secondary school principal or district-level leader, preferred
Rate of Pay:
$133,858 – $143,358 per Master Agreement
