Median Salary: $80,000-$115,000
Vacation: Holiday Break, Spring Break, Month of July

Position Overview
Grade level deans will oversee the coherence and successful integration of all components of students’ lives at Breck, including course selection, program adjustment, and progress towards graduation. Grade Level Deans are responsible for setting and maintaining culture within their respective graduating class. Rotating with students throughout their 4-year journey through the Upper School, the Deans will be ingrained in all aspects of student life and will strive to build meaningful relationships with students and families.
This individual works collaboratively as a part of the Upper School administration team to support students, parents/guardians, and faculty. Deans will help to foster a caring, positive, and engaging learning environment. Building a partnership with parents is an important part of the role. Deans collaborate with others to provide programming and support for the academic and social/emotional growth of all students. With an understanding of adolescent development, teaching and learning, the Dean shapes the personality of the class as a whole while also focusing on the individual development of every student.
Deans are expected to commit to 4 years to ensure coherence and consistency with their respective classes. There shall be an expected term of 4 years (grades 9-12) for grade level deans with opportunities to renew at the end of each 4-year term.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor student progress and development both academically and socially
Encourage student enthusiasm for, and sense of community in the School by generating student support for school activities and developing class programs
Organize and plan grade level retreat (each year of the 4-year term)
Oversee the overall discipline and climate of the class
Provide leadership in advisory programming and execution.
Communicate frequently with both faculty and parents/guardians about students’ experiences
Advise the Division Director on setting student policies and procedures in the division
In conjunction with the other deans and the Division Director, help construct the master academic schedule
Coordinate May program plans for relevant grade level
Collaborate with US Counselor, SST, and College Counseling in discussions of student support
In conjunction with school administration, interview and evaluate applicants for administrative and teaching positions
Represent the School frequently at school events
Teach two classes (or equivalent)
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in high school setting
Previous independent school administrative experience desired
