Position Information:
The Assistant Director of Student Services is responsible to promote high quality educational programming to meet the learning needs of students receiving services in special education. The Assistant Director of Special Services is responsible to promote the educational development of students with special learning needs; and to assist the Executive Director of Student Services in every way possible, and to share in the duties and responsibilities of providing leadership to special education programs and services, operations, supervision of instruction, maintenance and evaluation of special services certified staff and paraprofessionals, special services contracts, and public relations.

The Assistant Director will also support the supervision of programs and evaluation of licensed staff.
Position Requirements:
Must hold a valid Minnesota Director of Special Education administrative license
Must hold a valid Teaching license in K-12 content and/or Special Education
Other Skills and Abilities:
Five+ years of successful teaching experience, with a minimum of three years of experience working with special education students/programs preferred. Must have strong knowledge of instructional strategies, curriculum and best practices to support student growth.
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
* Monitor student needs and program delivery to ensure state and federal guidelines are met. Recommend programs and curriculum to the Executive Director of Student Services to better meet the needs of students.
* Provides instructional support, professional development opportunities and program development to ensure students receive a continuum of services.
* Supervises ECSE, 18-21 Transition Program, Assistive Technology and other groups as assigned.
* Assists the Executive Director of Student Services with student placements, continuum needs, Due Process requirements and conflict resolutions.
* Assist Executive Director of Student Services with maintaining and monitoring student Individual Education Plan files; monitor case managers with maintaining of student Individual Education Plan files.
* Assist the Executive Director of Student Services with annual program plans and budget preparation, demographic and fiscal analysis of program initiatives, and maintain approved accounting procedures for the departments.
* Assist the Executive Director of Student Services in screening and selecting certified staff; and recruitment, selection, and training of Special Education paraprofessionals and volunteers.
* Schedule, supervise, and evaluate Special Services teachers and classified staff as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services.
* Organize and monitor special transportation; determine transportation accommodations per IEP teams and monitor billings for special services transportation.
* Assists in the evaluation of all existing special services programs and future programming.
* Assist in the coordination of Homebound Services.
* Assume responsibilities for the leadership of the special services department in the absence of the Executive Director of Student Services.
* Attend staff meetings, in-services, and other professional development activities as determined by the Executive Director of Students Services.
* All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services.
