Academic Dean – MTS Secondary
206 Duty Day Contract
$55,000-$70,000 annual salary DOQ
MTS Secondary is seeking an energetic, dedicated, and highly organized Academic Dean! This role is essential in ensuring academic success, student support, and school-wide operations. The Academic Dean will report to the Principal of MTS Secondary and work closely with the Behavior Support Specialists, counseling office, and behavior team to create a positive, structured, and academically focused school environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Academic Leadership: Build and manage the master schedule, develop individual student schedules, and oversee credit calculations for all students including transfer students. Work with the Principal to conduct teacher observations and drive effective instruction.
* Student Support & Behavior Response: Act as a key member of the behavior team, responding to student behavior concerns, implementing restorative practices, and maintaining a positive school climate.
* Substitute Coordination: Monitor and arrange substitute coverage, ensuring classrooms are staffed and learning continues smoothly. Cover for classes in the absence of a substitute teacher.
* Senior Support: Oversee and facilitate senior exit projects, ensuring students meet graduation requirements.
* Family & Community Engagement: Support family relations development, strengthening school-home connections and fostering collaboration with caregivers.
* Leadership & Collaboration: Serve on the Leadership & Instructional Team (LIT), working with school staff to drive instructional improvements and school initiatives.
* New Student Integration: Lead new student orientation, ensuring a smooth transition into the school community.
* Data & Records Management: Maintain accurate student records, analyze credit completion, and track student progress in Skyward and other academic systems.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Highly effective communicator.
* Self starter, highly motivated.
* Strong ability to develop relationships with students, families, and staff.
* Effective collaborator within a team-oriented environment.
* Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a school setting.
* Familiarity with Skyward and other student information systems.
Preferred Requirements:
* Bachelor’s Degree
* Five years of experience working in schools
* 3+ years of teaching experience
