K-4 Principal
Reports to: Executive Director and Board of Directors
Status: Full Time
Essential Functions:
Art and Science Academy (ASA), a public charter school district located in Isanti, MN, serves approximately 350 students across two campuses (grades K-4 and 5-8). ASA is dedicated to providing a quality education in a small-school environment, integrating arts and science into its curriculum. ASA is looking for an energetic professional to lead the Elementary School.
The K-4 principal will lead the administrative transition to district wide programming, engagement, instructional planning and operations. The principal will provide leadership in setting a positive district culture, direction and instructional/behavioral standards.
The K-4 principal will be responsible for ensuring that all required federal, state, and Board mandates and policies are adhered to in the best interest of student learning. The principal will be the instructional leader, engagement coordinator and will be responsible for setting high behavioral and performance standards for students, staff and programs.
The K-4 principal will report to the Executive Director and Board of Directors and will ensure the school’s mission and vision are at the core of all decisions.The K-4 principal is responsible for the safety, engagement and instructional growth of all students.The K-4 principal is responsible for the hiring, supervision and evaluation of all K-4 employees.
Responsibilities:
Communicate effectively with the Executive Director and Board of Directors and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the executive director and board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Inform the director on issues, needs, and operation of the school system.
Provide input on the development and implementation of long- and short-range plans for achieving the strategic plan goals and objectives.
Work collaboratively with district leadership and staff to ensure safety, security, instructional excellence, student growth and engagement at all levels of district operations.
NOTE – Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.
Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong instructional pedagogy and experience, knowledge of School Board policies/ Minnesota State Statutes, and Federal programs. Awareness of community support, community expectations for the school’s curriculum and instructional theory and practices is essential.Ability to set a welcome tone, while maintaining school order and expectations, while engaging stakeholders is vital. The position requires, among other qualities, managerial, observational, communications, and leadership skills and abilities, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Education and/or Experience:
Education: Master’s degree and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree or higher in Administration and Supervision or Educational Leadership.
Experience: Have at least three years of successful teaching and 3 years of education administration experience. Prefer school or school system administrative experience with concentration in instructional leadership, behavioral management, and community engagement.
Experience with charter schools is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Current Minnesota State K-12 administrative license.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as curriculum guides, budgets, test results, contracts, grant applications, statutes, and policies. Ability to understand and generate written memorandums, employee evaluations, and correspondence with business and public contacts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to individuals and groups. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, staff, students, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Experience in working with and preparing budgets and the ability to read and interpret fiscal reports.
Computer Skills:
Must be knowledgeable of current school software, and a variety of electronic tools. Must be capable of correspondence using e-mail or other web-based applications.
Reasoning Ability:
Analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
