Middle School Counselor - Albany Area Schools (Albany Middle School)

Summary: Albany Area Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Middle School Counselor. This full-time position involves providing academic, social, and emotional support to students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will foster a positive school environment, promote student well-being, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and the community to ensure each student’s success. Responsibilities: - Provide individual and group counseling to students facing academic, social, or emotional challenges. - Develop and implement comprehensive school counseling programs that address the needs of all students. - Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a supportive learning environment. - Conduct assessments to identify students’ needs and develop appropriate intervention strategies. - Facilitate workshops and presentations on topics such as conflict resolution, study skills, and emotional regulation. - Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress. - Monitor student academic performance and provide guidance on course selection and career exploration. - Advocate for students’ needs and rights within the school and community. - Participate in school committees and contribute to the development of school policies and programs. - Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school counseling and mental health. Requirements: - Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field. - Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor. - Previous experience working with middle school-aged children preferred. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families. - Knowledge of counseling techniques, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution. - Familiarity with educational laws and ethical guidelines related to school counseling. - Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive school environment. - Proficiency in using technology for record-keeping and communication purposes. - Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
