DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Reports to: Superintendent
Department: Administration
Works with: Community Members, Students, Teaching Staff, Support Staff, Other Administration
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Community Education is responsible for providing leadership, management, planning, direction and implementation of a comprehensive community education program and department personnel serving the lifelong learning needs of the community in the areas of adult basic learning, youth enrichment and recreation programs, early childhood programs, community use of facilities, and child care programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Manages, directs and supervises department personnel directly or through designated program coordinators and supervisors.
1. Screens, interviews, selects and recommends candidates for supervisory positions and participates in the selection of both licensed and classified positions.
2. Conducts performance evaluations on all direct reports.
3. Controls and determines the design of the department’s organizational structure and the assignment of responsibilities and authority within the department.
4. Integrates community education programs with K-12 to enhance lifelong learning opportunities.
5. Monitors all program operations and activities to assure compliance with various local, state or federal laws, requirements or guidelines pertaining to program operations and fiscal operations.
6. Provides for and oversees staff development opportunities for staff to develop their skills.
1. Provides leadership and direction in the formulation of strategic plans and programs to operate a balanced, integrated and comprehensive Community Education Program. Performs such representative duties as:
1. Plans, develops manages, evaluates and implements Community Education goals and objectives.
2. Oversees the development, operation, registration and assessment of Community Education programs and activities.
3. Monitors programs to assure community needs, interest, participation and resources.
4. Monitors programs to assure compliance with laws, requirements and guidelines pertaining to its fiscal operations.
1. Supervises and oversees the preparation and submission of various district, state and federal reports pertaining to community education operations including statistical summaries/reports, financial reports, or program evaluation reports requested by various agencies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
* Requires a minimum of Master’s Degree and Community Education Licensure by the State of MN as a Director of Community Education and at least 3 years experience in the management, planning or supervision of community education programs; and/or evidence of equivalent education and experience necessary to perform the requirements of the work.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
* Demonstrated administrative abilities.
* Strong written communication skills.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
* This is an administrative and supervisory position engaged in the planning and oversight of the community education department. Employee is continuously required to talk, and hear; frequently sits; intermittently stands, walks, reach with hands and arms, uses hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoops, kneels and/or crouches, climbs or balances in the performance of the job. Physical requirements may be an issue when filling in or performing the duties of staff in high demand times or needs but these types or requirements are incidental to the major purpose and functions of the job. As a general rule, physical requirements can best be described as exerting up to 25 lbs occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body when performing staff functions.

Salary range $95,000 - $105,000 based on education and experience.
