Human Resources Generalist - Albany Area Schools

Summary: Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the administration of multiple human resource department functions. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, responsibility for employee onboarding, insurance benefit administration, employee leaves of absence, salary lane changes, direct involvement in payroll process, creation and maintenance of employee contracts, the creation and maintenance of personnel data, monitoring of performance evaluations, mandatory employee training, board management, all state and federal reporting and providing exceptional customer service to the department&#8217;s internal and external customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Recruitment & Hiring * Coordinate and support hiring processes for certified and classified staff * Post job openings, screen applicants, and coordinate interviews * Ensure compliance with equal employment opportunity (EEO) standards * Conduct background checks and reference verifications Onboarding & Orientation * Facilitate onboarding of new employees, including orientation sessions * Ensure completion of all required employment documentation Employee Relations * Serve as a resource for staff on HR-related questions and concerns * Support conflict resolution and disciplinary procedures * Maintain confidentiality and support a positive work environment Benefits & Leave Management * Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, retirement, etc.) * Manage employee leave requests, including FMLA, workers&#8217; compensation, and paid/unpaid leaves Compliance & Records Management * Maintain up-to-date personnel files and HRIS records * Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws * Support audits and reporting requirements (e.g., EEO-5, ACA, etc.) Policy Implementation * Assist in developing, reviewing, and enforcing HR policies and procedures * Communicate HR policies to staff and ensure understanding Professional Development & Training * Coordinate training and certification tracking (e.g., Safe Schools, Title IX, etc.) * Support professional development initiatives for staff Implements, compiles, and prepares various reports for federal, state and local officials/agencies including Minnesota Department of Education Staff Automated (STAR) reporting. Assists teachers in compiling and documenting information necessary for applying for lane changes. Reviews information to ensure completeness. Enters new salary information into the HR system in accordance with district procedures and contract requirements. Provides employee training to building/department administrative assistants and ongoing staff development. Manages Workers&#8217; Compensation claims, reporting, including OSHA reporting. Performs other duties as assigned but not limited to the following: * Attends training sessions, district in-services or staff meetings. * Assists in special projects, as appropriate. * Learns and is cross trained in other administrative and support functions within the department/program/building. Attends work regularly and punctually. Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required. Minimum Qualifications (Education Training and Experience Requirements): * High School Degree required. Training, or certification in Human Resources preferred * Two (2) years of work experience in human resources or related fields. * MN driver&#8217;s license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Essential Knowledge and Specialized Subject Knowledge Required to Perform the Essential Functions of the Job: * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat and other advanced computer skills. * Knowledge of collective bargaining procedures, public sector labor and employment law. * Ability to understand spreadsheets and apply mathematical principles to staffing; computer skills in use of information systems. * Knowledge of office equipment and typical business productivity software, databases or customized systems/applications used within the district for HR and payroll related items (i.e. SMART). * Ability to communicate with a variety of personnel; ability to verbally problem solve. * Knowledge of payroll, benefits and tax reporting. * Knowledge of basic record retention, record/file/database maintenance and reporting requirements. * Communication skills that target problem resolution and enhance customer service. * Ability to understand and apply human resource and employee relation concepts, principles, laws, rules and processes. * Basic understanding of data privacy requirements, provisions as it impacts the processing of accounting and financial records. * Knowledge of district administrative policies and procedures. * Procedures and fundamentals of policy development and enforcement. Essential Skills Necessary to Perform the Work: * Planning, administering and implementing human resource programs, reporting and functions. * Maintaining strict confidentiality in handling sensitive employee documentation and information. * Analyzing and interpreting collective bargaining agreements. * Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with central office personnel, cooperative employees, member districts, and representatives of other agencies. * Writing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. * Effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of administrators, supervisors, employees, vendors, and the general public. * Defining problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. * Performing work assignments requiring attention to detail, precision and accuracy and in accordance with set deadlines. * Reviewing, proofing, auditing and correcting coding and data entry, payroll records and payrolls. * Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. * Applying knowledge of current research and theory in specific fields. * Performing duties with awareness of all district policies. Work Environment: This is an administrative position performing job duties and assignments in a typical district office environment where there are a minimum of environmental hazards and risks associated with performing the job. Physical Job Requirements: Employee is required to frequently sit, talk, hear, and uses hands to finger, handle or feel, intermittently stands, walks and reaches with hands and arms. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Salary: * $55,000 - $65,000 per year. * Negotiable beyond $65,000 with HR certification and experience within a similar position. * Contract is 260 days. Summary:

  • $55,000 - $65,000 per year.
  • Negotiable beyond $65,000 with HR certification and experience within a similar position.
  • Contract is 260 days.
