Adult Options in Education (AOIE) is a collaborative, innovative adult education program serving learners across Hopkins, St. Louis Park, Minnetonka and Wayzata Schools. We’re passionate about creating welcoming, inclusive classrooms where adult learners can build the English language skills they need to thrive at work, at home, and in the community.
We’re currently seeking a dedicated Advanced ESL teacher to join our morning program (M–Th, 9:15–12:15) at our St. Louis Park site, located in the vibrant Central Community Center.

Responsibilities:
* Teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults focusing on the language domains of listening, pronunciation/speaking, reading, writing and grammar as a part of student-based learning.
* Prepare ESL lessons that integrate English Language proficiency competencies as measured by CASAS and TABE.
* Analyze student needs, assess progress with the Individual Learning Plan/CASAS/TABE assessments, as mandated by MDE and Adult Options In Education.
* Use appropriate techniques for individual learning styles
* Provide for individual as well as group learning by use of computer-assisted instruction or other methods preferred by the adult learner
* Coordinate volunteer-student assignments by determining selection of materials, supervising student's progress, and assessing needs and performance
* Responsible for record keeping for class and for accurately recording attendance, student progress, reasons for leaving, etc.
* Participate in Adult Options In Education Collaborative Team Time, Community Education and District kick-offs and staff meetings as assigned by Assistant Director
* Manage classroom and learning labs to facilitate learning and retention of students
* Maintain levels of training criteria established by State Department of Education
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field and current Minnesota Teaching Certificate (Tier-1 District-sponsored license is possible)
* Knowledge of adult learning theories and development
* Experience teaching adult ESL
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Ability to supervise volunteers and work well with others
* Ability to assume initiative in problem solving
* Excellent organizational skills
* Excellent record keeping skills
* Ability to manage time and responsibilities
