The role centers on fostering meaningful relationships, enhancing academic and emotional outcomes, ensuring a supportive and equitable learning environment, and providing a culturally responsive environment for all students. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Native American Educational Support: * Serve as a liaison between the school, Native American families, and Tribal Nations to foster strong, respectful, and supportive relationships. * Engage with Native American students and their families to ensure their cultural values, histories, and languages are respected and integrated into their educational experience. * Provide consultation and resources for the development and implementation of culturally relevant curriculum, programs, and services that reflect Indigenous perspectives and values. * Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to provide direct support for students in need, particularly focusing on social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. * Lead the implementation of trauma-informed practices and restorative justice approaches in addressing student behavior, aiming to reduce exclusionary discipline and improve student well-being. * Work on dropout prevention, re-entry, and transition services for at-risk Native American students. * Act as a first responder to student crises, offering emotional support, resources, and interventions, while collaborating with counselors and external agencies for more intensive care if needed. * Work closely with families to address social and emotional challenges impacting students' education, helping to connect them with community resources and support services such as food, housing, and mental health care. 2. Educational and Mental Health Support: * Assist in developing and implementing individual social and emotional support plans for students, prioritizing preventive measures before referring students to special education services. * Monitor the effectiveness of interventions through data collection and evaluation, tracking behavioral incidents, discipline records, and special education referrals. * Partner with school staff to foster a healthy, safe, and inclusive environment, enhancing students' mental health through comprehensive mental health support and services. 3. Professional Development: * Provide consultation t for school staff on culturally responsive teaching practices, implicit bias, and the unique needs of Native American students. * Connecting the School District with Resources for Professional Development specific to Indigenous Education * Support the school community by participating in conversations that build awareness around diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that school policies are aligned with these goals. 4. Collaboration and Community Engagement: * Build partnerships with community organizations, Tribal Nations, and other stakeholders to enhance resources and services available to the Native American Education Program and Native American students and families. * Facilitate Native American Parent Advisory Committee meetings, discussions, and events to receive the parent committees plans and meet program requirements through collaboration.. 5. Program Planning and Evaluation: * Assist in planning programs and initiatives supported by Title IV, Part A funding, ensuring that activities improve school conditions for student learning and mental health. * Participate in planning and evaluating Title IV, Part A programs aimed at fostering safe, supportive, and drug-free school environments. * Regularly assess the impact of school-wide behavioral interventions, social work services, and student support initiatives through data analysis on behavioral incidents, academic performance, and student well-being. * Work with school leadership to regularly assess and refine the impact of support programs on student behavior, mental health, and academic performance, adjusting as needed to maximize outcomes. 6. Resource Coordination: * Connect students and families to community resources such as food pantries, housing assistance, and health services. * Serve as a liaison to external mental health providers, coordinating care for students who require ongoing therapeutic support outside of school.
