Northwest Service Cooperative Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a consortium of 29 school districts in northwest Minnesota that help adult learners acquire basic skills. The consortium is currently seeking a full-time ABE instructor for the community of Bemidji (approx. 1550 hours per year including paid prep time and professional development hours). This is a year-round position to begin on July 1, 2025. This important position oversees one of the busier ABE programs in the consortium!

Bemidji ABE: Daytime classes are held Monday through Thursday at Northwest Technical College in Bemidji Park. The site enrolled 145 adult learners from 7 countries speaking 8 languages in the 2025 program year (May 1 – April 30) for a total of 2149 student instructional hours. (Average 32.5 instructional hours per student)
Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructors develop curriculum and implement educational programs for adult learners and promote ABE programming in the local communities. We are seeking applicants with strong background knowledge in varied areas including reading, writing, and math. Stong technology skills are required for this position.
ABE programming includes prep for the following: General Educational Development (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), US Citizenship, Adult Diploma, digital literacy, workplace skills, career and post-secondary planning, basic literacy and numeracy.
Essential Duties:

Develop and plan instructional activities
*
Develop lesson plans and individual educational plans
*
Administer student assessment tests and evaluate results
*
Provide direct instruction in ABE content areas
*
Establish and maintain an appropriate environment for adult learning
*
Demonstrate organizational skills for managing multi-level classrooms
*
Provide intake, evaluation, referral, placement and support for adult learners who contact the program
*
Act as a representative of the program in the community
*
Attend consortium staff meetings
*
Participate in regional and state in-service training as needed
*
Complete all current/required state and district training
*
Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Current MN Teaching License required
*
Prior experience with adult literacy or certification in Adult Education and/or ESL preferred.
Starting Hourly Wage: $29.68/hour (or higher, DOE)
Start Date: Training to begin upon hire.
