Specifically, the instructional coach will: 1. Build teachers&#8217; knowledge base around effective practices; 2. Assist teachers in implementing targeted instructional practices; 3. Provide teachers with resources to impact their instruction; 4. Assist teachers in examining student achievement data and use it to drive instruction; and 5. Help teachers leverage the collaborative team structure to promote effective instruction among all team members. Essential Qualities of an Instructional Coach 1. Able to form relationships with different types of people; 2. Appreciation for a wide range of teaching styles; 3. Possesses a growth mindset; 4. Knows and understands good pedagogy; 5. Understands the needs of adult learners; 6. Demonstrates initiative and ability to prioritize; 7. Demonstrates effectiveness as a teacher; and 8. Able to effectively model best practices. Specific Roles and Responsibilities Role of the Instructional Coach The role of the instructional coach is to support the work to align staff development with school goals and improve instruction in every classroom. 1. Develop positive and supportive relationships with classroom teachers, administrators, and staff. 2. Help classroom teachers address learning needs and challenges in individual classrooms through modeling, co-teaching, and/or providing feedback. 3. Ensure collaboration through regularly scheduled meetings with the principal to monitor progress of the coaching strategies and modify as necessary. 4. Monitor and evaluate assessment data to determine improvements in instructional practice and student achievement. 5. Support classroom teachers in long- and short-range planning (co-planning) for increased student achievement. 6. Provide teachers with feedback on lesson design and lesson planning. 7. Assist teachers in understanding, gathering and utilizing instructional resources. 8. Provide teachers with feedback on how to utilize support staff to support effective instruction. 9.
