Required:
* Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in education, psychology, or related field
* Skills related to behavioral management techniques
* Knowledge of child development
Preferred:
* Knowledge of positive intervention supports, behavior management, crisis response, de-escalation, and physical restraint
* Two years’ experience working with children in an organized setting
* One year of experience observing and collecting student behavioral charting data
* Knowledge of trauma informed best practices
* Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process.
* Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus.
* Ability to collect, summarize, and graph behavioral data.
* Use and model research-based and evidence-based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions.
* Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, verbally and in writing, including electronic media.
* Organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes.
* Plan and facilitate groups.
* Monitor individual student goals
* Assist with management of student behaviors in the classroom.
JOB GOAL:
Working under the direction of the student support team, the Behavior Support Assistant provides Tier III behavioral interventions for K–8 students who demonstrate significant challenges with self-regulation, peer interactions, or school expectations. This position is funded through the state’s ADSIS (Alternative Delivery of Specialized Instructional Services) grant, which supports early, targeted interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) to help students succeed in general education and reduce inappropriate referrals to special education. Responsibilities include implementing individualized behavior plans, delivering targeted SEL and executive functioning supports, collecting behavior data, and collaborating with general and special education staff to promote student success.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Individual will work closely with the school counselor to assist in the following areas:
* Deliver intensive, individualized behavioral interventions aligned with Tier III ADSIS guidelines
* Support executive functioning development, including time management, organization, and study habits
* Provide individualized and small-group social-emotional learning (SEL), pro-social behavioral and social skills programming instruction
* Offer structured sensory breaks and support regulatory tools based on student needs
* Collect and document behavior data consistently for progress monitoring and evaluation
* Participate in intervention planning meetings with ADSIS staff, teachers, and MTSS teams
* Maintain regular communication with teachers, families, and student support teams
* Implement behavior plans with fidelity and adjust support strategies under direction of interventionist or MTSS team
* Supervise and work directly with students to address inappropriate behaviors and help them adopt behaviors that will help them become more academically successful.
* Process individual student behaviors/issues/concerns with students as needed.
* Maintain and protect confidential information regarding students and programming.
* Participate in student team and/or IEP meetings, as needed.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
* Position involves light to moderate degree of physical stamina and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
* Position involves sitting for a portion of time, but will involve standing, walking, and bending.
* Position involves indoor and outdoor time with students
SUPERVISION OF OTHER EMPLOYEES:
This position does not include supervision of other employees.
Job Summary: 6.75 hours per day
174 contract days per school year
$25.95 per hour
