Hopkins Journey Teacher - Grow Your Own Apprentice The position described below is in addition to the work of the Journey Teacher&#8217;s current teaching position in HPS. Summary: Provide one paraprofessional-apprentice with modeling, coaching, and mentoring for the academic year. This includes approximately 3 hours outside of the duty day per week to provide approximately three hours of time per week within the duty day to plan together, provide feedback, and reflect on learning with the paraprofessional-apprentice. The Journey Teacher: * Uses best practices in adult coaching and mentoring to collaborate with the Teacher Apprentice on the duties of an elementary teacher, providing a gradual transition to teacher duties aligned to the pace of the three-year Teacher Apprenticeship Program. * Engage Apprentice in establishing a consistent, organized, and respectful learning environment. * Engage Apprentice in providing positive and constructive feedback to guide students&#8217; learning and behavior. * Engage the Teacher Apprentice in student assessment. * Engage the Teacher Apprentice in IEP and 504 responsibilities and accommodations. * Engage the Teacher Apprentice in instructional design and delivery. * Engage the Teacher Apprentice in collaboration and communication with families. * Engage the Teacher Apprentice in collaboration and communication with school and community partners and team members. The Journey Teacher provides instructional leadership and support with a focus on teacher development through modeling and coaching. Journey Teacher requirements: * Supports implementation of Teacher Apprenticeship Program by sharing professional expertise to provide assistance to Teacher Apprentices. * Holds MDE Tier-4 licensure. * Collaborates with Apprenticeship Program Navigator/Coach, Bemidji State University faculty, and Hopkins Public School administration to assist Teacher Apprentices in their job-embedded learning and responsibilities. * Exhibits growth mindset through sharing and continuous learning about research-based instructional strategies/practices focused on supporting theory to practice. * Models for, co-teaches with, and mentors Teacher Apprentices on implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies/practices to maximize fidelity of implementation of Teacher Apprenticeship Program. * Provides Teacher Apprentices with ongoing mentorship on effective use of data to change/improve instruction and increase student achievement. * Develops and refines classroom tasks, instruction, and assessments aligned to Minnesota Academic Standards, including depth of knowledge and best practices, working collaboratively with Teacher Apprentices. * Models differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. * Assists with and/or conducts job-embedded learning opportunities for Teacher Apprentices, specifically the integration of technology in classrooms to support student learning. * Provides guidance and support in establishing and maintaining a positive culture and environment in the classroom, on school premises, or during school activities by communicating expectations of appropriate behavior. * Analyzes and interprets data and feedback from Teacher Apprentices to maximize impact of program expectations. * Employs and implements district policies and procedures. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in a school environment, using standard equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
