Star of the North Academy is a public K-8 charter school focused on closing the achievement gap. We seek to create a K- 8 school experience for young scholars that empowers them with knowledge, character, and leadership skills. Star of the North Academy is looking to hire a Behavior Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year for East Bethel/Coon Rapids campus. Job Description: Star of the North Academy is seeking a culturally responsive, critical thinking and energetic K-8th grade Behavior Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. This position will focus on building and supporting positive student behavior and a safe and supportive culture and climate for optimal student learning, including managing student behavior referrals and building strong and effective relationships with students and families to support student success. Responsibilities & Duties: * Manages student behavior in hallways and classrooms, monitors student attendance, handles day-to-day functions of discipline * Working with students needing additional assistance to be successful behaviorally in a classroom or other school setting * School wide behavior supports planning and implementation * Behavioral data collection and analysis and school wide training for use and implementation * Supporting students by building relationships and teaching skills that will support positive behaviors * Communicate with staff and students regarding students&#8217; needs and behavioral progress * Daily behavior management and intervention duties * Supervises student arrival and dismissal, coordinates the bus safety program, and manages bus behavior referrals * Oversees student attendance program in collaboration with the School Administration; manages communication related to attendance * Collaborates with administrative team to execute student management plan including procedures for conflict management, restitution, suspension, etc * Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Required * Bachelor&#8217;s degree in education, mental health, child development or other related fields * Knowledge of elementary school policies and procedures, student management and discipline * Previous coursework/training in the areas of conflict management, restitution, students w/ special needs, student management, creative problem solving, small group dynamics, and social services * Ability to be patient, flexible, and work with students and families * Evidence of highly effective student management * Desire to continue developing leadership skills * Direct experience in working with student discipline issues * Have knowledge of and be able to apply legal mandates, policies, regulations and operational procedures pertaining to student instruction and discipline * Possess human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies and team building principles and techniques * Ability to recognize areas of concern and propose or recommend appropriate solutions to problems * Assists with developing and preparing school discipline reports for submission to the Student Records Management Program Preferred: * Evidence of leadership at the building and/or district level * Teaching experience * Mental health experience * Behavioral health experience in a school setting * Bilingual / bicultural (Arabic, Somali, Urdu, Amharic, Oromo) Compensation: Star of the North Academy's salary for this position is competitive and based on prior experience.
