JOB SUMMARY:
Uses knowledge, education, and experience to help each student develop competence in basic mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics. Motivates each student to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems and encourages students to develop their talent in the field of mathematics.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Teaches courses in mathematics to secondary students using appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
· Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing discovery and laboratory learning methods.
· Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
· Designs learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
· Evaluates each student’s progress in mathematical knowledge and skills.
· Participates in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
· Attends staff meetings as well as serves on staff and district committees as requested.
· Participates in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
· Works cooperatively with Special Education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
· Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities/areas as assigned.
· Uses data to make informed decisions about students regarding behavior and academics.
· Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records including attendance reports, and other records, as necessary.
· Collaborates with other department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies and interventions.
· Creates an environment conducive to learning and that is appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
· Interacts in a positive, constructive manner with students, families, teaching assistants and other professionals.
· Models the district Vision of “all means all” and demonstrates a willingness to become an active contributor to the school culture and our continual school improvement process.
· Demonstrates knowledge around state standards, PBIS, restorative practices, technology to support students, and professionalism.
· Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, other professional activities as required by the district, and self-selected professional growth activities.
· Demonstrates proficiency in the WI Educator Standards, district teaching expectations and delivery of the WI content standards for Mathematics, and federal or state laws pertaining to students.
· Performs all other duties as assigned by Administration.

· Effectively engages students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs.
- Assessment for and of Learning
· Systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses relevant data to measure student progress, guide instructional content and delivery methods, and provide timely feedback to students, parents, and stakeholders.
- Learning Environment
· Uses resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, safe, positive, student-centered environment that is conducive to student engagement and learning.
- Professionalism
· Demonstrates behavior consistent with legal, ethical, and professional standards, contributes to the profession, and engages in professional growth that results in improved student learning.
· Valid Teaching License in Mathematics from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
· Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Mathematics.
· Experience teaching Mathematics.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Capable on a continuous basis of standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity and to hear.
2. Capable on a frequent basis of walking and moving, climbing stairs, lifting from floor to waist (up to #50), waist to shoulders (up to #25).
3. Capable on an occasional basis of pushing; pulling; lifting from shoulders to overhead (up to #25).
