PreK 3 Assistant/Early Childhood Assistant

Columbia Heights Public Schools is looking for an Early Childhood Assistant in our PreK 3 program! This position supports children ages 3 to 4 years, in a school year based position at the Family Center.
Typical Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 6 hours per day with 30 minute unpaid meal break.
Position would begin August / Fall 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Pay: $19.80 per hour

Major Responsibilities
Performs human support work preparing and assisting with the program and activities for students; providing a clean and sanitized environment for students; modeling behavior and supervising and monitoring behavior of students, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Teacher - Early Childhood Family Education and Pre-K.
Qualifications
* High School diploma or GED
* CPR and First Aid preferred
* Moderate Experience working with children ages 2-4 years of age in a classroom, child care, parenting environment, or equivalent setting preferred
* Experience working in a multi-cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred
* Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
Education and Experience
* High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working in childcare, parenting environment, or equivalentcombination of education and experience.
Essential Functions
* Participates in classroom activities and assists with supervising children, monitoring behaviors and guiding children with positivity, care, and patience.
* Assure children are in a safe and clean environment.
* Support room preparation and planning for daily activities.
* Greets families/parents and students when they are arriving or leaving the program.
* Works on a team with teacher and support staff, attend meetings and professional development opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of district handbooks, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; general knowledge of CPR and
first aid procedures; general knowledge of thermometer usage and other basic home health tools; some skill facilitating
child interaction programs and activities; some skill operating standard office computer equipment and applicable
hardware and software; some skill maintaining accurate records both paper and electronically; ability to effectively
communicate with staff, students, parents and other district stakeholders both orally and in writing; ability to establish
and maintain working relationships with associates, parents, students and community members.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force;
work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or
feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting,
climbing or balancing, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is
required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important
instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word
levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using measuring devices, operating machines
and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather),
exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and
may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a
moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
