Position Description: Special Education Teacher
Reports to: School Director
Location: Discovery Woods School
Salary Range: $35,000-$42,000
Position Type: Full-time
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide evidence-based interventions to address the goals within each student’s IEP.
* Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations.
* Assess student progress and determine the need for adjustments to interventions
* Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
* Attend team meetings and work cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing goals and strategies.
* Communicate effectively with the school director, teachers, paraprofessionals, students, families, and other school personnel.
* Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
* Comply with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
* Manage and respond to student behaviors
* Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e.,social services, public health, medical providers etc.) regarding the needs of students.
* Provide explicit guidance and documentation to classroom teachers and paraprofessionals regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, and behavior plans
Required Qualifications:
* Valid Minnesota teaching license
* Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* Commitment to further education through professional development opportunities
* Dedication to evidence-based practices
