Group Affiliation/Policy: Teacher (Teacher on Special Assignment) Classification: C-5-1 Exempt Status: Exempt Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Teacher on Special Assignment - Dean of Students, assists the Principal and Assistant Principal in the daily functions that are necessary to provide a positive environment for students and staff. The incumbent will build meaningful relationships with students and staff and help lead the efforts to build a student-centered, equitable, positive school culture. This position will promote positive student relationships and behaviors and will also work to educate students in positive decision-making. Responsibilities include working with teachers on curriculum development and delivery of instruction, directing student activities, and working with staff on behavior management and providing disciplinary consequences for students as necessary. Qualifications: Must be licensed teacher in the State of Minnesota and have at least 3 years of teaching experience. Preference may be given to a candidate holding an administrative license. Must have the ability to effectively and appropriately work with parents/guardians, students, staff and other educational professionals regarding the operation of the school. Ability to physically intervene in aggressive situations as necessary using proper procedures. Ability to assess and address safety risks and liability. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with parents/guardians, students, staff, and members of the public with sensitivity and tact. Must have a demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in a positive manner. Ability to work independently and collaboratively and maintain a high level of confidentiality. Previous experience working with high school aged students is preferred.
