Minnehaha Academy is seeking an Upper School Counselor beginning in the Fall, 2025
Position Summary:
Minnehaha Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate High School Counselor to serve our student body. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive counseling services that support the academic, social emotional, college and career and spiritual development of our upper school students. This role involves working collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and administration to create a supportive and Christ-centered environment where students can thrive and prepare for their futures.
The salary range for this position will be $41,500 - 80,000 annually, depending on education and years of experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Academic Advisement:
- Assist students with course selection and academic planning to ensure they meet graduation requirements.
- Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with teachers and parents to address academic challenges.
- Social-Emotional and Spiritual Counseling:
- Provide individual counseling to address a wide range of student issues, such as anxiety, stress, grief, peer relationships, and family concerns.
- Develop and implement proactive counseling programs on topics relevant to high school students (e.g., healthy relationships, conflict resolution, mental health awareness, and spiritual growth).
- Integrate a Biblical worldview into all counseling practices, providing guidance rooted in Christian principles.
- Serve as a resource for students in times of crisis, providing immediate support and making referrals to outside professionals when necessary.
- College and Career Planning:
- Provide guidance on college and career exploration, including advising on application processes, standardized testing (SAT/ACT), and financial aid.
- Write and submit letters of recommendation for college applications.
- Coordinate and organize college fairs, campus visits, and presentations from college representatives.
- Maintain and update college and career resources for students and parents, including classroom visits and parent night meetings.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to address student needs and behavioral issues.
- Serve as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and administration.
- Lead and participate in parent information nights and workshops on topics such as college admissions and adolescent development.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience:
- Previous experience as a school counselor, preferably in a high school setting.
- Experience working in a private, Christian, or faith-based school environment is highly desirable.
- Certifications:
- Valid state certification/license as a School Counselor.
- Valid state certification/license as a School Counselor.
- Christian Faith:
- Must be a committed Christian with a strong, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Ability to integrate faith into counseling practice and model Christian character.
Agreement with the school's statement of faith and mission.
- Skills & Attributes:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Empathy, compassion, and a genuine love for working with students.
Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
Proficiency in using school management systems and college/career planning software.
