Job Title: Special Education Paraprofessional Department: Special Education Reports to: Building Principal Work Location: Middle School / High School Work Schedule - Monday Through Thursday Start Date - ASAP Salary Schedule: According to Agreement Job Posting: Carlton Schools is seeking a licensed, full time 1.0, Paraprofessional for the 2025-2026 school year. The position would begin at the start of the school year. Job responsibilities include, but not limited to: assisting special education teachers and classroom teachers with daily non-instructional activities and student management. Posting open until filled. Summary The function of the special education program is for the paraprofessional to assist special education teachers by reinforcing student&#8217;s goals and student management. The special education paraprofessional is typically assigned to a general education program to support special education students who may have significantly impaired academic, behavioral, or functional skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. Special Education Process. The paraprofessional has the awareness, knowledge, and implementation skills that result in a high degree of professional practice in the following special education processes or willingness to be trained: * Will be under the direct supervision of special education service providers. * Reports directly to the special education service provider and/or building principal of any questions or concerns brought forth by other staff, parents, or students. * Implements activities as directed by the special education service provider in order to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals. * May be assigned to assist with behavioral intervention techniques and strategies. * May be assigned to assist students with self-help skills. * Completes forms and documentation records of daily activities and student performance. * Collect student performance data through observations or other methods. * Input data into a computer and/or graph student performance results. * Maintains a high degree of confidentiality regarding the privacy of parents, students and staff. * Develops an awareness and understanding of the assigned students' unique needs. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: AA Degree or ability to pass Parapro Test or willingness to be trained. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively work with students and manage behaviors in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with all staff, students, and administrators. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to effectively work with mild to moderatelly handicapped students with language, cognitive, physical, emotional and/or sensory disabilities. Ability to interact and maintain positive, respectful and effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and administrators. Ability to positively and effectively follow directions and expectations from teachers and administrators and actively problem solve together if necessary. Must be consistently respectful of individuals&#8217; diversity in culture, race, sexual orientation and sexual identification. Must maintain absolute confidentiality about student data and information. Ability to be flexible when changes in schedules or student or staff needs arise. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk throughout the school building or on school grounds, speak and hear. The employee will work with students inside the school, and outside for recess, physical education classes, field trips, etc. The employee frequently is required to direct or redirect students with requests or demands or to help de escalate behavior. The employee may be required to lift or help lift and position students or to handle student equipment such as wheelchairs or other devices. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but may also be loud, e.g., in the cafeteria or upset student with verbal outbursts.
