Description The Recess Paraprofessional provides supervision to students, K through 5th grade while students are on the playground; monitors and advises students as to safe practices; assists students in organizing games and other activities; ensures school rules are followed; provides encouragement; addresses student conduct when necessary; supports the conduct policies of the school and District; reports to the school associate principal or designate as assigned. Qualifications Qualified applicants will have prior experience supervising children ages 5 to 12, organizing recreation activities for children, and will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities: understanding of child development, both socially and physically; ability to work and communicate effectively and affectively with 5-12 year old children; willingness and ability to work outdoors during all seasons; ability to supervise student activitie inside a classroom if weather dictates a change in the schedule; ability to maintain a respectful play environment and keep eyes on students at all times; willingness to work with administrators and staff to ensure a safe and positive recess period; ability to maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate; ability to work as a team member, as well as function individually in making decisions about safety; willingness to receive appropriate training, including basic first aid, and a willingness to be supportive of the policies and goals of the school and District. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in a school environment, utilizing standard equipment and requiring stamina to sit for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. The job also requires vision to read printed materials and computer screens, as well as hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person or over the telephone. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a school setting. Occasional travel is required to locations throughout the District. Hours & Compensation: Paraprofessional Contract- SEIU 2 days per week, part-time.
