JOB DESCRIPTION Academic Support * Collaborate with classroom teachers and intervention staff to provide academic support to American Indian students, both during class and in small-group or one-on-one settings. * Assist students with assignments, homework, organization, and test preparation, while encouraging the development of independent study and learning skills. * Track and monitor student academic progress and attendance, identifying trends or barriers to success, and regularly share updates with teachers, families, and support teams. * Participate in MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support), IEP (Individualized Education Program), and CST (Child Study Team) meetings to advocate for student needs and contribute to support planning. Cultural Awareness * Promote cultural awareness and understanding within the school community through respectful dialogue, education, and shared learning experiences. * Serve as a resource to staff and students on American Indian culture, history, traditions, and perspectives. * Collaborate with teachers to incorporate culturally relevant materials, perspectives, and activities into the curriculum. * Plan, organize, and participate in school events, cultural celebrations, and workshops that honor and uplift American Indian heritage and identity. Individualized Student Support * Build trusting, supportive relationships with American Indian students to foster a sense of belonging and confidence in their educational journey. * Provide mentorship, emotional support, and guidance to help students set and achieve academic and personal goals. * Work closely with teachers, counselors, social workers, and administration to create individualized support strategies for students experiencing challenges. * Advocate for students and their families, ensuring their voices and cultural perspectives are acknowledged and respected in school decision-making. Family & Community Engagement * Maintain open and consistent communication with American Indian families to support student success and promote strong school-home partnerships. * Facilitate meaningful engagement with families, including parent outreach, support during school meetings, and assistance navigating school systems. * Build and maintain collaborative relationships with tribal leaders, elders, and local American Indian organizations to enhance community involvement and cultural connections in the school. * Attend and represent the school at relevant community meetings, events, and educational conferences to remain informed on best practices and current issues in American Indian education. Documentation & Communication * Maintain accurate records of student check-ins, attendance interventions, academic support, and family contacts. * Communicate effectively with staff, families, and community partners to ensure a consistent and culturally responsive support system for students. * Contribute to program evaluations and reporting efforts as required by the district or grant partners. Additional Responsibilities * Assist with identifying, writing, and collaborating on potential grant opportunities that support American Indian education and cultural programming. * Remain informed and current on best practices, policies, and laws affecting American Indian education. * Carry out other duties as assigned that support students, staff, the school, and the broader community. * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by administration.
