Position Title: Special Education / Community Education Paraprofessional
Classification: Classified Level 5 Lane 7
Start Date: Septemeber 22, 2025
SUMMARY: The function of the due process paraprofessional is to assist special education service providers with routine paperwork and activity documentation so as to allow service providers to spend more time instructing and measuring progress and performance of their students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Special Education Process. The paraprofessional has the awareness, knowledge, and implementation skills that result in a high degree of professional practice in the following special education processes:
* Understands and follows due process procedures as specified in the St. Croix River Education District (SCRED) Due Process Activity Lists.
* Will be responsible for scheduling special education team meetings as directed by the supervisor and documenting attempts to notify parents, completing various team meeting forms, and mailing or delivering notices to persons invited to attend.
* Will notify Individual Education Plan (IEP) managers of upcoming IEP meetings and evaluation due dates well in advance in order to comply with due process timelines.
* Will file copies of due process forms, evaluation reports, IEPs, and other similar documentation into the student’s special education folder.
* Will coordinate paperwork and other data with the St. Croix River Education District (SCRED) such as annual child count data and IEP database forms.
* Will organize student data, special education forms, and other relevant data in the student’s special education folder.
* Will maintain a special education student database with regard to suspensions received by the student in order to comply with Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) requirements.
* Will attend weekly building level Student Support Team (SST) meetings
* Will use the various Due Process Activity Lists developed by SCRED to document due process requirements and to act as a quality control for meeting all necessary mandates.
* Maintains a high degree of confidentiality regarding the privacy of parents, students and staff.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Proof of passing the ParaPro Test and/or two years or more of successfully completed college preparation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to follow prescribed due process procedures while dealing with demands or request from a variety of people. Ability to structure a personal schedule to complete the requirements of this job.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to operate a computer and related software. Good organizational skills with a focus to detail. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with teaching staff and administrators. Good interpersonal and telephone skills when contacting various persons to schedule meetings. The employee continually interacts with teaching staff, parents, and administrators frequently meeting multiple demands from various persons.
