Position Summary

Gateway STEM Academy, a K-8 charter school in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking a passionate and innovative Middle School Science Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for scientific exploration in students in grades 6-8. This role requires a strong commitment to inquiry-based learning, hands-on experiments, and culturally responsive teaching to ensure all students develop a deep understanding of science concepts and their real-world applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned science lessons in physical, life, and earth sciences.

  • Utilize hands-on experiments, project-based learning, and technology to deepen student understanding of scientific concepts.

  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, inquiry, and scientific problem-solving.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

  • Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.

  • Connect scientific concepts to real-world applications, STEM careers, and cross-disciplinary learning.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the school’s STEM-focused curriculum.

  • Maintain high expectations for student engagement, behavior, and academic achievement.

  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and ways to support learning at home.

  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Science.

  • Experience teaching middle school science, with knowledge of best practices in science instruction.

  • Commitment to inquiry-based, hands-on science learning and culturally responsive teaching.

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with middle school students.

  • Proficiency in using student data to drive instruction and improve outcomes.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

The ideal candidate will inspire students in grades 6–8 to think critically about history, civics, geography, and current events, while fostering an understanding of the social forces that shape our world. This role requires a strong commitment to inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and culturally relevant pedagogy that empowers all learners.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned social studies lessons in areas such as U.S. history, world history, geography, and civics.

  • Foster critical thinking and discussion through primary sources, project-based learning, debates, and simulations.

  • Create a classroom culture that values multiple perspectives, encourages civic engagement, and connects past events to current issues.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and cultural needs of students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, History, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Social Studies (grades 5–12 or applicable).

  • Experience teaching middle school students and a strong understanding of adolescent development.

  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive and anti-bias education.

  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students.

  • Experience using data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
