Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Needed:
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching methods and strategies for multilingual learners. Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum development. Excellent skills in developing and presenting ideas effectively in verbal and written form Excellent skills in establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with colleagues and parents. Strong skills and experience in assessment and data analysis to improve educational environments. Demonstrated success in an itinerant position preferred.

Specific Tasks:
Provide an ideal, positive learning environment, instruct students in individual or group sessions, develop, translate and integrate lesson plans, and establish positive relationships. The English Language Development (ELD) teacher will work with small groups of students to develop their language skills in the four domains of the WIDA ELD standards while supporting academic content and language learning. The ELD teacher will work closely with teachers and administrators to analyze student data, identify instructional needs, and identify research-based instructional strategies to develop students’ language skills in the four domains of the WIDA standards. Determine eligibility for EL services by examining Home Language Surveys, cumulative files, and WIDA scores per MDE guidelines. Provide annual notifications to families regarding eligibility and services provided to the students. Identify and model academic language related to content and provide meaningful opportunities for student language production. Support multilingual learners in their content areas through collaboration with content area teachers. Guide students’ personal and social development by establishing rules/procedures and by exposing students to cultural nuances. Build and maintain successful relationships with students, parents, and staff. Maintain ongoing communication with parents through progress reports and addressing questions/concerns. Administer language screeners and annual WIDA ACCESS and disseminate results to stakeholders. Facilitate cultural understanding between MLs and the community. Hours Per Day:
7.5 hours/day
