Hennepin is seeking a hard working Licensed School Nurse to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond. This is a part-time time position of up to 20 hours a week. Job Title: School Nurse
Reports To: HS Assistant Director of Operations
Status: Part-Time, up to 20 hours a week
Supervises: None
Position Summary:
To create and maintain and implement student health and wellness policies, and procedures that supports the school’s mission to:
Provide a safe, nurturing and cooperative learning environment where staff ensure children discover their personal and academic strengths
Cultivate a sense of staff and student respect and responsibility to build a sense of social awareness and a social bridge to the broader community
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide temporary and emergency care and/or first aid to ill or injured students in our Elementary school and Middle school.
Evaluate the student''s health and development status through monitoring and assessment; including annual vision and hearing screening
Dispense, monitor, and record all students'' medications for acute and chronic health problems, consult with physician and parent regarding recommendation for medication adjustments or changes when needed; Prepare first aid kits for both buildings.
Supervise students in the nurse''s office.
Serve Crisis Prevention Team at both buildings.
Determine and maintain inventory of School Nurse Office equipment and supplies per health services guidelines.
Support the development and maintenance of the school wellness program and conduct school programs in accordance with state requirements.
Provide information or referrals on health related issues for the purpose of instruction staff, students, and/or parents on various health subjects (e.g. lice, personal hygiene, pink eye, ringworm).
Maintain a daily log of pertinent student health information for the purpose of providing information required by legal and professional standards.
Assist with health and safety in-service and education programs.
File completed accident reports of injuries for the district and maintain records.
Check immunization records and follow up to ensure all students have the appropriate vaccinations or waiver to attend school.
Implement current guidelines from Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Education
Maintain records of childhood illnesses, medical needs a/or allergies and create and communicate treatment plans to accommodate the student’s needs (e.g. inhalers, EpiPens and diabetes)
Serve on IEP teams for students with medical needs when necessary.
Complete and submit that AISR report annually and on time to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Promote a positive image of the school district and positive public relations at all times.
Consult with local public health authorities when reporting students with contagious diseases for the purposes of minimizing infection and compliance.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Current RN license or equivalent.
Excellent oral, written and spoken communication skills, preferably bilingual
Ability to interact well with internal staff, students and parents.
Detail oriented, flexible and able to multi-task.
Professional demeanor and appearance with a positive attitude and a sense of humor.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Self-motivated, proactive and resourceful in the completion of work assignments.
Sense of accountability and ownership for work results.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Knowledge of the following computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
Ability to pass a criminal background and MN disciplinary incidence research.
